DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT

NSMN_77_LINN.JPG

I'm a Brazilian film director. Through images and stories, I seek to approach contemporary languages for creating non-hegemonic stories and imagery.

I'm a Latin American woman living in the United States. And also a withe woman, granddaughter of indigenous women who had their identities erased, living in Brazil. This contradictory social location has allowed me to deeply recognize the structural system that produces inequalities.

Angela Davis, Bell Hooks, Ailton Krenak and film directors from the Brazilian Cinema Novo and Italian Neorealism movements were master-authors who sculpted my worldview. With their guidance, I've learned that, as a director and artist, I make choices which contribute to the creation of an imagery repertoire and a work culture. And that diversity, anti-racist and equal rights practices should be a commitment of all those who seek ethics in their existence.

I inhabit the crossroads of distinct worlds and it makes me realize the importance of using my work to add up to the strengthening of this representativity line in the world, through an active and reflective standing.

I revere the beauty of cultures, bodies, and knowledge that defy the dominant narrative. And I drive my life and production force to see these characters and stories which continue showing and drawing us to a new horizon of life, in which we may collectively imagine new ways to exist
